Which state has the worst drivers?
One-third (36%) of Australians believe New South Wales has the worst drivers in Australia – and just over half (54%) of NSW drivers agree!
Overall, Queensland came in second place (21%) with Victoria a close third (20%).
Insurer of the Year* Budget Direct commissioned a survey of over 1000 people from across Australia asking which state/territory has Australia’s worst drivers. It found each state thinks it has the worst drivers – but all listed NSW as home of the second worst (except NSW which picked its own drivers first).
“Everyone thinks their state has the worst drivers – no doubt because that’s where we do most of our driving,” says Kimberley Moody, Senior Communications Manager, Budget Direct.“It’s interesting all put NSW drivers as the next worst; whether that’s a reality or not the locals seem to agree.”
In the same survey when asked which road users were the worst drivers, the majority (30%) picked taxi drivers, followed by 4WDs (23%). Cyclists were the third worst drivers according to 13% of respondents**.
However cyclists topped the list when it came to road users causing the most issues on our roads, with 29% saying they caused the most problems, followed by transport and logistics trucks at 24%.
