Children are highly dependent on their parents at the best of times, let alone when they’re seriously ill or injured; and the death of a child doesn’t bear thinking about.
Our Children’s Cover can pay you a lump sum of up to $50,000 should your insured child die, be diagnosed with a terminal illness, or suffer one of 14 specified illnesses or injuries.
This would allow you to take time off work to grieve or provide extra care and support for your child.
Children’s Cover can be added as an option to your Life Cover policy. It insures your child against:
- death, due to an accident or illness
- terminal illness that results in a life expectancy of less than 12 months
- specified illnesses and injuries, namely:
- Benign Brain Tumour
- Loss of Hearing
- Chronic Kidney Failure
- Loss of Sight
- Loss of Speech
- Loss of Use of Limbs and/or Sight
- Major Head Trauma
- Major Organ Transplant
- Severe Burns

Frequently asked questions
Is there a waiting period?
Yes – you can only claim for specified illnesses or injuries that occur or become apparent more than three months after:
- your application is accepted
- any non-indexation increase in your cover (but only in respect of the increase)
- your policy is reinstated (after lapsing).
My child has a pre-existing medical condition – can I still get cover for him?
Yes, however if we agree to a special term with you that specifically excludes that condition, you will be unable to claim for an illness or injury resulting from that condition.
What evidence is required in support of a claim?
The terminal illness or specified illness or injury must be certified by a medical practitioner approved by us; and the diagnosis must be confirmed by test results.
How long is my child covered for?
We guarantee to renew your child’s cover until the policy anniversary following his or her 21st birthday (unless the cover ends sooner, for example if you make a policy-ending claim).
Want more cover?
Aside from Children’s Cover, there are two other types of life insurance – Trauma, and Total and Permanent Disability (TPD) cover – you can bundle with your Life Cover.
We also offer two standalone policies: Income Protection Cover; and Accidental Death Insurance.
