Kawana Surf Life Saving Club’s volunteers can spend more time patrolling the beach thanks to an extended commitment from local insurance provider Budget Direct.
The company’s decade-long sponsorship has been extended through to 2019, providing much-needed surety of income to enable the Club to continue running its Lifesaving operations, said Bob Clements, Vice President, Kawana Surf Life Saving Club.
“Without Budget Direct’s commitment we would have to allocate more time and resources to fundraising activities which eventually take their toll on our volunteers who patrol the beach,” said Mr Clements.
Previous funding has gone towards purchasing equipment, including a Surf Rescue Vehicle, and enabling the Club to grow sustainably.
“We have come a long way in 10 years with improvement in numbers of active volunteers, nippers and supporters as well as physical improvements to the Club,” said Mr Clements.
“However the biggest value to the Club of this long-term sponsorship is knowing a large local business is there supporting us, especially when things got tough.”
Budget Direct Community Manager Gerry O’Shaughnessy says the company is strengthening its support to the local communities it operates in. Mr O’Shaughnessy recently stepped down from his role as Director of Contact Centre Operations to focus on increasing the company’s community impact.
“I’m passionate about inspiring our people to become more engaged in our communities and to bring to life our purpose of providing our customers with smarter solutions to safeguard a brighter future,” said Mr O’Shaughnessy.
In addition to the three year funding commitment Budget Direct’s staff will be participating in fundraising events for the Club. From later this month through to Christmas 90 staff will be giftwrapping for donations at Kawana Shoppingworld.
Established in 2000, Budget Direct now employs over 1300 people, with 280 located at Birtinya. Over the past 16 years Budget Direct has provided insurance to more than 1.5 million customers and contributed $15 million to the local economy.
The company is building a new purpose-built contact centre on Innovation Parkway which is expected to be completed by early 2018.
